Find out how much you can save by going solar in the Palmetto State

Want to lead South Carolina's transition to solar energy?

Enjoy all of the benefits of simple solar ownership.

Every year millions of people visit South Carolina for its warm weather and sunny skies. From Columbia to Charleston, and Myrtle Beach to Hilton Head Island, residents are leading a rooftop revolution with a list of solar incentives longer than the Grand Strand.

South Carolinians can claim a 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit ("ITC") when they choose to go solar. This means that you can realize substantial savings through solar ownership by deducting 30% of your system's price from what you owe Uncle Sam. South Carolina also offers a state-level tax credit of 25% of your system's price - this allows you to reduce your state tax liability by up to $3,500 per year, while rolling over any unused portion of the credit for up to 10 years.

Utility companies have also warmed up to solar and offer additional incentives that are arguably among the best in the country. For instance, Duke Energy customers are eligible for great upfront rebates based on the size of your system, while SCE&G customers can take advantage of Performance-Based Incentives ("PBIs") as determined by the amount of energy your system produces.

What Our South Carolina Solar Customers Are Saying

    • Everything was taken care of without me spending anything out of my pocket. It's been great and I'm very happy with my decision to go solar. We haven't gotten our first full bill with Dividend Solar yet so hopefully we'll have it here soon.

      Jeff Charleston, SC

We have a house with the grid sun exposure and I just moved into South Carolina from the North. I thought it might be a worthwhile opportunity to have solar power and now I'm very satisfied. Enrollment was pretty simple. They have a fancy website and that was all I need. I haven't talked directly to anybody at Dividend Solar - haven't needed to - so it was painless.

      Bob Mount Pleasant, SC

    • I started looking around online for a solar energy company. I ended up with Alder Energy, which gave me the loan for Dividend Solar. Everybody from Dividend Solar was respectful. They tried to answer any questions that I have. The solar panels are great and exceeding my expectations so far, the whole process was seamless, and the loan was very easy to get. I'm very satisfied, and I know for a fact that for this coming month, I'm not going to have an electric bill to pay.

    Frequently Asked Questions

The number of solar panel installations in South Carolina jumped significantly in 2015 with the introduction of great incentives from local utilities SCE&G and Duke Energy on top of the South Carolina 25% State Tax Credit. South Carolina has some of the best solar incentives in the country.

SCE&G offers a Performance Based Incentive ("PBI") where the utility pays an additional bonus for all electricity that your system produces. Homeowners receive credits on utility bills (in many cases nearly eliminating the utility bill!) and may also be eligible for a cash payment based on the system's production.

Duke Energy, on the other hand, offers a rebate to significantly reduce the cost of the solar system, providing homeowners with a discount on the upfront cost and helping the overall savings.

On top of the incentives from the utility companies, South Carolina offers a 25% state tax credit – a credit on taxes that you may be paying to the state. This credit combined with the 30% federal tax incentive allows for over half of your system to be covered by tax credits alone!

25% South Carolina State Tax Credit + 30% Federal Tax Credit + Utility-Based Incentives = Great Solar Savings … and one of the fastest-growing solar markets in America.
